About Ocho Rios

Runaway Bay is a rising resort town with a rich history.  Runaway Bay was the first settlement of the Spanish in Jamaica and the last point of exit after being defeated by the British. The name came either after the

African slaves or Yassi, the last Spanish Governor of Jamaica who fled to Cuba.

Nearby was Discovery Bay, where Christopher Columbus visited during his

voyage in 1494, thus the name Runaway Bay. Located in Runaway Bay are the Runaway and Green Grotto Caves that are the largest and most accessible caves on the island. Combined years estimates to be about half-million years old. Inside are stalagmites and stalactites and an

underground lake. Book fun things to do from Runaway Bay.

In 1769 the capital of Trelawny was laid out, and Sir William Trelawny was

instrumental in its establishment, so they named the town after his English

birthplace Falmouth. Streets were planned as a grid and patriotically named

after members of the royal family and English heroes.

Bioluminescence micro-organisms are what you will find at Falmouth; this

happens with the mixture of two bodies of water, where the Martha Brae River

and the Caribbean Sea meet. When this body of water is disturbed at night, it

glows brightly. The Famous Luminous Lagoon Glistening Waters is known as  one of Jamaica's best night-time attraction. Find the best day tours and shore excursions from Falmouth.
